West 8 Urban Design and Landscape Architecture

On Thursday March 16, Daniel Vasini, Creative Director of West 8 New York, will give a lecture entitled Resilient Landscapes in the Face of Climate Change: Lessons from the Dutch to the Illinois Chapter of ASLA. This will be part of the Chapter’s lecture series called Ignite!, a series intended to promote growth and gathering presented by Bartlett Tree Experts and Victor Stanley.

On Monday March 13, West 8 New York's Principal Claire Agre will deliver a lecture entitled “West 8 in the New World,” about the firm’s recent works, at the 2017 New Jersey Chapter ASLA Conference.

West 8, in cooperation with Tongji University, is recently commissioned by the Shanghai Municipal Government and Shanghai Shenjiang Liang'an Development Construction Investment Group to design the 1.6km Xinhua Waterfront Park at the east coast of Huangpu River.

West 8's senior landscape architect Jelle Therry is invited to be the Keynote Speaker in the 49th OALA (Ontario Association of Landscape Architecture) Annual General Meeting & Conference.

West 8’s Río Cali Park in Cali, Colombia enters construction of Phase Two of the master plan.

On February 15 2017, BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group was annouced as the winner of the design competition of a new headquarters and bottling plant for San Pellegrino in northern Italy. West 8 collaborated on the landscape component of the winning design.

Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies list for this year names West 8 first place in the Architecture Sector for "meeting the rising tides."

On 25th of February 2017, West 8’s Senior Urban Designer, Christoph Elsässer will partake in an international conference "LANDSCAPE - the concepts of modernity and the current practice”, organized by Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. 

On the 2nd and 3rd of March 2017 West 8's Adriaan Geuze will perform together with the composer Huang Ruo in a series called 'Scherpdenkers', organized by the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. 

On 9th of March 2017, Adriaan Geuze will present his latest works in one of the Landscape Lectures at the Calderwood Hall of Gardner Museum in Boston.  

Longwood Gardens just announced its Main Fountain Garden will make its grand return on May 27, 2017, following a two-year, $90 million revitalization in which, West 8 has been working in collaboration with architect Beyer Blinder Belle (historic preservation) and Fluidity Design Consultants (water feature design).

On the 27th of January, Penne Hangelbroek will speak at the NVTL New Year's reception, to be held at Fort Vechten. Penne will elaborate on the design for the transformation of the 19th century fortress into a museum.   

Follies, Function & Form: Imagining Olana’s Summer House Exhibition moves from the Olana State Historic Site in Hudson, NY to the Center for Architecture in New York City. 

Vanke assigns West 8 as landscape architect and urban designer to kick off a 4.7 ha. revitalisation project in the core centre of Shanghai city: ‘Columbia Circle’. Together with OMA, West 8 will transform this historically significant location of Shanghai into a new cultural and creative quarter.

Governors Island is awarded Honorable Mention in The Architect's Newspaper 2016 Best of Design Awards Public Landscape Category

On the 23rd of January, West 8 New York's Principal Claire Agre will deliver The University of Oregon's annual Fuller Lecture.

This year West 8 completed nine projects, has nineteen new projects started, thirteen projects under construction, participated in three exhibitions and received ten international and national awards.

Since fall 2016 West 8 has been appointed as urban designer for the Zhangjiang Northerwest District Urban and Landscape Upgrade project. This project will become a demonstrative project for the upgrade of the rest of the Zhangjiang Innovative District. 

On the 15th of December the City Council of Rotterdam voted positively for the financing of the major street refurbishing. With building starting in April 2017, Coolsingel will once again become an iconic promenade for Rotterdammers.  

In its renovated post-war modernist building on Kensington High Street, the newly open British Design Museum forms part of a wider development that has been regenerated after being laid dormant for over a decade. Its success showcases a brilliant revitalization process of existing heritage site.
