West 8 Urban Design and Landscape Architecture

As a result of an eight-hour long meeting on 17th June, the Jury selected six teams out of 90 international applications for the design competition Zaryadye Park, Moscow. TEAM West 8 is one of the six teams which enter the final to submit design proposal for this first contemporary park in Moscow since 1958.

The Art Summer of the Ruhr metropolis will be held between June 22 and October 6, 2013 along the banks of the Emscher River. This second instalment of the EMSCHERKUNST exhibition series invites guests on a journey of art discovery at unexpected locations in the public sphere - ‘a great day out and free of charge’.

On the 11th of June it was announced that Team WEST 8 has been selected as a finalist for the Water Works, a RiverFirst Signature Park by the Minneapolis Park Foundation with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. Earlier in May Team WEST 8 submitted a proposal for the revitalization of the riverfront site which sits on the banks of the Mississippi River. 

From the 27th June till the 2nd of September the Hostetter Gallery, Boston will feature orignal collages from Adrian Geuze and other prominent landscape architects as part of its Composite Landscapes: Photomontage and Landscape Architecture Exhibition.

On the 4th of June Strijp S development was awarded the coveted Golden Phoenix award in the Area Transformation category.  The extremely bold and flexible approach at Strijp-S is, in the eyes of the jury, worthy of the all the praise and wide following that the project has received to date. 

The opening of Governors Island for the 2013 summer season on the 23rd of May is enriched by a giant implosion and behind the scenes tours of the new West 8 designed park construction site. 

Representing West 8, Christian Dobrick speaks on the 8th of June at the 2013 Digital Landscape Architecture Conference in Germany. The DLA explores collaboration and transdisciplinary planning in the digital environment.

On the 20th to 22nd of June, West 8 will join a plethora of internationally renowned thinkers and practitioners at the Herrenhausen Palace in Hanover, Germany to engage in critical debate about the contemporary intelligence of landscape at a time of relentless conceptual oscillation and uncertainty. The conference is organised by the Department of Architecture and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology

Noted for its "high level of build and craftsmanship" this "high profile scheme with high specifications" was recognised in the Hard Landscaping - Construction cost over £1.5 million category at the 2012 BALI awards.

Situated amongst some of London’s most iconic destinations, The Jubilee Gardens is at epicenter of London’s most prominent cultural hotspots, and is according to The Culture Trip, one of the top ten destinations in the South Bank.

BIG and West 8, Fentress, JPA and developers Portman CMC unveiled their plan for the redevelopment of the 52-acre convention center in Miami Beach on 13th of May at a public meeting. At the centerpiece of the plan is the Miami Beach Square, which will become the new civic heart of the district and a destination in the city.

On the 9th of May, Daniel Vasini spoke on behalf of West 8 at the XVI National Conference SIU in Naples. The subject of the conference is ‘Different Urban Growth.’ Daniel’s lecture is titled ‘Inhabiting Innovative Landscapes’.  

Queens Quay has become the locus for several community events in May.  The popularity of the construction site demonstrates the high level of public awareness and involvement in the revitalization of the Toronto Waterfront.

On 2nd of April 2013 the Strijp-S was nominated for this year’s Golden Phoenix award in the Agricultural Transformation category. Strijp-S is one of only 10 projects selected by a jury of experts from over 90 submissions.

Adriaan Geuze is invited by the Minneapolis Parks Foundation with its partners the Walker Art Center, the Department of Landscape Architecture and College of Design – University of Minnesota, and American Society of Landscape Architects, Minnesota Chapter to present his lecture on Thursday the 16th of May 2013.

The International Garden Show in Hamburg will be opened on 24th June. Their slogan is 'Around the world in 80 gardens' this year. 18 show gardens under the World of Water theme will be dedicated to the issue of water shortage and abundance. West 8 receives a commission for designing 3 of the show garden plots under this ‘World of Water’ theme.

The first phase construction of a 900 meter pergola structure has been completed. This high qualitity concrete pergola will soon be covered with diverse vegitation. The 6 meter high pergola portal structure with an organic hexagon pattern has MC Escher inspired end portals.

Adriaan Geuze will give a lecture at the School of Architecture in Southeast University, Nanjing, China on 25th April. With a lecture titled "Second Nature" he will be presenting several recent projects of West 8 to the students and scholars in this historical city Nanjing.
