West 8 Urban Design and Landscape Architecture

Work is well under way on Jubilee Gardens and important milestones have already been achieved as the Gardens continue to take shape, including the installation of new drainage, the formation of tree pits and the production of granite seating edge units and paving setts.

Miami SoundScape Lincoln Park is chosen as the #1 of the top 10 notable landscape architecture developments in 2011, chosen by the presedent of Cultural Landscape Foundation, United States.  

As one of the three finalists West 8's design is now to be reviewed online and in an exhibiton at the St. Petersburg Museum of History, 335 Second Ave. N.E.. The exhibit is free and open to the public from Dec. 6 to Dec. 30.

Adriaan Geuze has been awarded a lifetime achievement award from the BKVB, the Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture.

Every first Thursday of the month: De Unie Late Night at De Unie, Rotterdam. It is a talk show about who, what, where and when in Rotterdam. Adriaan Geuze is invited to this spectacular debate table on 1st Dec., hosted by Ernest van der Kwast. 

23 November Councilor Jeannette Baljeu together with key persons of ProRail, NS, Metropolitan Region, director of steel factory Iemants, Raf Iemants and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment hoisted a flag to celebrate that the building construction of the new Rotterdam Central Station has reached its highest point.

A joint venture of West 8, Trama Arquitectos and Estudio 3.14 design an urban renewal project for Vallarta’s iconic waterfront, locally known as the Malecón. This project has been carried out through the summer of 2011. By Thanksgiving, the work will reach its completion. This will mark a Renaissance for Vallarta’s historic district in a matter of just 5 months.

West 8 is awarded the biennial Prize for Urban Project in the XIII International Biennale of Architecture in Buenos Aires BA11, Argintina.

The Stage Two results for the International Gateway Park Competition in Taichung, the third largest city of Taiwan, were released on October 7th. The jury, consisting of three Taiwanese and three international experts, has granted West 8 the third prize.

Pedestrain Bicycle Bridge by West 8 The first completed project of the urban renewal project 'Aarschot on tracks' is Pedestrain Bicycle Bridge by West 8. From now on, it serves not only as a 'landmark', but it also breaks the barrier effect of the rail tracks. It connects the city with its old and new parts. This pedestrain bicycle bridge over the tracks is now an indispensable link in the city cycle route. It becomes an essential part of the supra-local functional cycle network.

On 21 September 2011, the Department of Urban Planning and Construction announced that West 8 has won the competition of urban and landscape planning for the first phase of Freiham North.

Out of 100 teams from across the Europe, Asia and North America whom submitted expressions of interest, West 8 has been shortlisted as one of the 5 finalists for the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park - South competition, announced by The Olympic Park Legacy Company on Friday 23 September.

Adriaan Geuze will contribute his vision on the Dutch polders to the 20 years long existence of a Dutch 3D interpretation of the concept of space: "Vedute". His manuscript will be presented on 11th Sep. 2011 at Arcam, Amsterdam. The supplement of his 3D-manuscript can be downloaded here.

Plans to transform Jubilee Gardens on London’s South Bank in time for both the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games have made a leap forward, following the announcement of Frost Landscape Construction as the preferred bidder for the contract.

Miami Beach Soundscape has received the prestigious Frederic B. Stresau Award for absolute innovation and design excellence of the profession in 2011 and the Award of Exellence from the Florida Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA).
