West 8 Urban Design and Landscape Architecture

On the 28^th of June, West 8 will take part in the discussion on "Urban development underground space planning" during the International Forum 'Integrated development of underground space of cities'. Martin Biewenga, one of West 8's partners, will contribute to this discussion by giving a lecture on "How underground infrastructure can use urban potential" using examples from projects by West 8 in Boston, Madrid, Maastricht, Hamburg and Groningen.

The International Forum takes place in St. Petersburg from the 27^th till 29^th of June. This is a three day event which will discuss the potential of underground cities in Russia as a counter to the growing traffic and density in Russian cities. Offices and institutions which play an influential part in structuring urban design worldwide have been invited to present their perspective on bringing cities underground.
