Construction at Drexel Square continues
05-03-2018Since construction started in fall 2017, Drexel Square, a 1.3-acre public green space in front of the Bulletin Building, along with a more than 12,000 SF elliptical green lawn serving as the gateway into University City from Center City and 30th Street Station, is starting to get shape. Drexel Square is 'a linchpin' of the master plan project which was launched in 2016 to transform Philadelphia’s innovative neighborhood, namely the Schuykill Yards.
Designed by SHoP and West 8, together with Drexel University and master developer Brandywine Realty Trust, the general intent of the masterplan design is to create a livable neighborhood that will attract an educated work force, one that increasingly demands walkable access to offices, shops and homes in a dense urban environment. Construction at Drexel Square will continue until mid next year.
The project was also featured recently in New York Times, click here to read.

High water in Noordwaard
15-01-2018A quarter of The Netherlands lies below sea level and almost 60% of the country is vulnerable to flooding. So when in the first weeks of 2018, the water levels in the Dutch rivers peaked at 14.65 meters above sea level, measures were taken! Between 2011 and 2015, West 8 worked on one of them: the depoldering of The Noordwaard. This polder was transformed into an open area of 4,450 hectares that can drain water to the sea during periods of high water levels. The drone shots above show the spectacular result.
